Since atheists aren’t absolutely certain of anything, they have given up knowledge. Atheists are uncertain of everything.

You are talking as if people can only be 100% certain of something (so certain that there is no conceivable way for them to be mistaken) or not certain at all. This is not how knowledge and certainty work. People know things with varying degrees of certainty.


Take scientific knowledge, for instance. Because it is based on observation and induction, no scientist is ever 100% certain of any knowledge acquired by the scientific method. They may approach 100%, but there is always the possibility that new evidence will come to light that invalidates earlier knowledge. So, have scientists given up knowledge because they are not absolutely certain of their conclusions? A vast history of innovation (including the knowledge that makes this blog possible) testifies otherwise.

The idea of being 100% certain is ludicrous anyway. In order to be 100% certain of any assertion, you would have to be omniscient. How else could you be certain that you were not being deceived in some way unknown to you?

A person’s certainty of any knowledge can accurately be portrayed as being on a continuum, and in the end, this “you have given up knowledge” argument is a grand equivocation.
